Hmmmm, the start of the slippery slope downhill that's left us with Jay Kay's frail ego-shell of a band.
Some good tracks and playing- Stuart Zender was still on-board for bass duties, and Toby Smith's Rhodes-playing can't be doubted, but the whole thing lacks the energy and superb production that made "..Planet Earth" a masterpiece. Too much commercial gloss, not enough danger! |

This album is a masterpiece, and the best school for everyone who is willing to play rhodes piano.
Toby Smith's rhodes piano sound is so versatile on this priceless record!!!
Check "Cosmic girl" - fantastic chords
and rhythmic structure, and i think rhodes is effected with pedal Toby said he used in his 1997 interview - Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress (though its a flanger Toby called it a "phaser").
Check "Everyday" - what a sound!!!!
Toby used some piano tricks like the ones used by Herbie Hancock in 1975 in track "Sun Touch" - check "Everyday" from 4:01 - this place will blow your mind!!!!!!!!
The track called "Travelling Without Moving" sounds SO UNIQUE!!!
In an interview Toby said his fave tune from "Travelling Without Moving" (1997)cd is "Alright" -
and this tune is just crazy, and so groovy ! And again rhodes piano sounds
effected and soooo cool!!!
All the tracks on this supercool cd are amazing
and rhodes piano sounds outstanding and very special.
And dont forget to check incredible groovy jazzy bonus tracks:
"Funktion" and "Do You Know Where You're
Coming From" - the best tracks that was ever recorded with rhodes piano!!!!
TOBY THANK YOU FOR THIS MAGICAL RHODES PIANO SOUND AND IDEAS!!! |

Rhodes piano always was the main instrument in Jamiroquai music.
I became a fan of rhodes only thanks to Toby Smith, keyboards player from this cool band.
And Rhodes piano sound on this album is amazing and so unique. |
