This is truly one of the Rhodes gemms of all times! The relatively unknown Rob Franken, who is mostly known for his work as a side man with Peter Herbolzheimer and Toots Thielemans (Turks Fruit soundtrack)died at 42 year in 1983. The recordings here are all from the seventies recorded in small jazz clubs in Holland under which the famous Nick Vollebregts Jazz Cafe in Laren. The mastering is gorgeous and the songs reveil Franken as a Rhodes genius. Including a bonus documentary cd about Franken's life (mostly in Dutch). |
