Excellent live album from Dave's current quintet with Donny McCaslin in place of Chris Potter. Recorded in December last year, the music on this double-CD set has been cherry-picked by Dave from a week-long residency. The entire week's music was recorded and is available as a download only via Dave's site (or Musicstem). It seems that a lot of people still wanted to have a real CD so this was released. Apart from about 3 tracks all the music is new. |

This is one of the best Fender Rhodes recordings available , for me the best I heard in a long time. The Rhodes is nicely recorded with healthy warm Suitcase overdrive at the right moments and a musical sounding Rhodes-randomness that Uri Caine knows how to use so well.
The way Uri ploughs through a Rhodes gives it a kinda "Monk-ish" quality in his own way. But this recording is something else and ranks with the classic recordings that were made by Miles Davis during 1968-1970 (Filles de Kilimanjaro / Directions ).
Top notch. Warm and Vintage. |
