Sloan is a band from Halifax, Canada. They're well-known in Canada but never broke into the U.S. This is their live album from 1999. They're primarily a guitar-driven band, but on a few songs either their rhythm guitarist Jay Ferguson, or their drummer Andrew Scott play a Rhodes Stage 73. The playing is competent but not virtuosic. However, Sloan are about catchy songs, not chops. They excel at clever and diverse songwriting, as all four members write and sing their own songs. This album is likely not the best introduction to Sloan, but fans of live albums (especially raw, unedited ones) will find something to enjoy.
Note: The inside of the jewel case depicts the traumatizing image of a Rhodes being smashed on stage with a mic stand. |
