There can't be the slightest doubt that the British acid jazz movement
in the early 90s played an enormous important role in putting the Rhodes back on the map again - if you will, a sort counter-movement against the sleek, digital-heavy Eighties. At the center of acid jazz was Gilles Peterson's label Talkin' Loud that brought us artists like Incognito, Omar, The Young Disciples and, yes, Galliano, who for a short moment in history were the most exciting live act you could encounter - perfectly documented on "Until Such Time", recorded at different venues around Europe in late '92. Hear heavy criss-cross rapping over an ultra-tight funky rhythm section, highlighted with beautiful Rhodes explorations - brilliantly executed by "The Mystic T" who is no other than Mick Talbot, once a half of 80s heroes The Style Council (with Paul Weller). Until Such Time is, as far as I know, only available - if at all! - as pretty expensive Japanese edition, but you might get lucky buying it used somewehere. It's worth the search! |
