When Minnie Riperton died after her long struggle with breast cancer in 1979, she was just 31 years old. Her legacy is some of the finest funk/soul/R&B of the 70's, highlighted by Minnie's stunning multi-octave voice, effortlessly able to reach peaks that Mariah Carey can only dream of. The Anthology "Les Fleurs" is a fine young-listener's-guide to the ouevre of this fine singer. And a big chunk of timeless grooves
and ballads with fat bass, chimey Rhodes, tasteful strings and many more ingredients from the 70's soul cookbook. And if you like acid jazz bands such as Incognito - here you can dig deep into their roots! |

The magic of Charles Stepneys production, arrangements, and Rhodes playing on Minnies early work make it some of the most satisfying soul music you will ever hear. |
