For me, the most interesting "new" music comes from people brushing up timeless vinyl treasures from periods some time ago. "Verve/Remixed" shows 12 artists/teams from the European DJ/NuJazz scene giving tunes by the likes of Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington,
Willie Bobo or Billie Holiday a new and contemporary sparkle without doing them any kind of violence - true gestures of respect, no doubt about that. And massive, great sounding Rhodes all over the place, of course. Highlights: Shirley Horn's "Return To Paradise" (Mark De Clive-Lowe), Ella Fitzgerald's "Wait 'Til You See Him" (DePhazz) and Nina
Simone's "Feeling Good" - this remix by Joe Claussell beats Michael Bublé's recent rendition of the same song by far. |
