this review is low because this is *half* of a great record. the first side is fairly breathtaking, with a front line of dave liebman, steve grossman, and joe farrell. on keys: jan hammer AND chick corea, trading off tunes-- in fact, "tergiversation," a composition by bassist gene perla, is an undersung rhodes-summit of the 2 players (featuring some killin' aggressive brushwork by the leader). buy the album (if you can find it) for this track alone and forget about the rather lukewarm reading of "la fiesta" on the second side..... |
