What can I say? One of the finest albums ever made.
Anyone out there who is seriously interested in funk soul or jazz needs to hear this. I am enternally captivated by this album. There has never been a time when I listened to this and failed to gain something new.

Ian Brown is responsible directly and indirectly for two of my favourite albums. First as singer, and one half of a songwriting partnership responsible for The Stone Roses debut album and the next, stating his favourite album of all time was What's Going On, which this then fifteen year old immediately went out and bought. This album is simply beautiful and life affirming. There was nothing released before or nothing released since that comes close. His soul, his voice, add in the funk brothers and the great James Jamerson and you have perfection. The albums arranger David Van De Pitte was also responsible for another fine album by Caesar Frazier entitled Another Life. One last thing, go and buy Alan Slutsky's Standing In The Shadows Of Motown book for everything James Jamerson. Thank you Ian Brown. |
