The Rhodes is all over this album, and Earth, Wind & Fire is the backup band. What more do you want??? I'm listening to it right now, noticing just how sweet Ramsey's Rhodes sounds on "Livin' For The City", with a nice mix of bell-tone and what sounds like tube overdrive sometimes. Now he's gettin' down with the wah...if you want an idea of just how many different tones you can get out of the Rhodes, this track is a great example.... |

Charles Stepney also plays the Rhodes and Arp string ensemble on this date as he did on several EWF and Ramsey Lewis albums. He is credited as producer on many of those sessions. His sound on the Rhodes, ARP string ensemble and MiniMoog was the benchmark for the whole golden era of jazz/r&b/soul fusion. |
