Everything in its right place- This track sees singer Thom York playing their suitcase Rhodes as the basis of the track. At the end of the track the Rhodes can be heard going through a lo-pass filter; I am not sure about the studio, but live this is done via running the Rhodes through a Lovetone Meatball (an envelope high, low, and band pass filter) on guitarist ed o'brien's pedal board. a line 6 dl 4 is used to loop the rhodes so the band can leave the stage and keep the music playing (the song closes most shows)
In Limbo- On this track, Guitarist Ed O'Brien plays the Rhodes, in conjunction with what i am fairly certain is a Roland Space Echo. The part is just a few notes, but can be heard quite clearly, especialy at the begining of the track.
Morning Bell- very similar to Everthing... in that the Rhodes take center stage. Very Straight forward tune other than the 5/4 time signature.
just a note, motion picture sound track is played on a pump organ, not a Rhodes.

Well, I think Morning Bell is my favourite non-jazz Rhodes piece. There is something about that Am-A7 transition that is just breathtaking...also the Em-E7 during the "cut the kids in half" middle 8. Beautiful. Oh, and Everything in its Right Place, too. |

the usage of rhodes on the album is brilliant as others have stated. notice how the person that gave a 1 rating and simply typed "over rated" had nothing insightful (or anything at all) to say to elaborate upon or back up his negativity. the rhodes parts are not very "choppy" if that's what you're into. the album dislpays how the rhodes can be just as effective and in many ways better in place of a guitar if used tastfully. |

Once I heard "Everything in its right place" I had to find out what kind of organ it was! After searching around some message boards, someone told me it was a Fender Rhodes. Hmmm...Being a musician I had to have one! Now I own one that I'm currently restoring. The sound on those songs moved me that much! Back to the album though, it was the warmth of the Rhodes that made the three songs so great IMO. They are classics! Seeing Thom play these songs live is a real treat as well! This album is a masterpiece! |
